Open girdles are the most popular form of latex girdle. Open girdles evolved directly from corsets and reflected the change in fashion that occurred in the early part of the 20th century. The desired female body shape changed from an hour glass to a more uniform shape. Breasts were often compressed, as were the hips, with less control of the waist. The open girdle fulfilled the need to shape the hips. Most open girdles start at the waist line and extend down, but some open girdle designs start just below the bust. Early open girdles were sometimes referred to as boneless corsets. Just to confuse matters, corsets were occasionally referred to as girdles.
Rubber rapture open girdles are based on designs that were popular in the 1950s and 1960s. These open girdles were examples of latex clothing sold on the high street. The introduction of lycra in the early 1960s enabled boneless open girdles to give greater hip shaping than the heavily boned, lace-up girdles of the 1940s, but with greater comfort. Pure latex girdles were introduced in the 1940s and continued through to the 1980s despite the introduction of lycra in the 1960s.
Our Rubber Rapture seamed latex open girdle designs are similar to the moulded latex girdles of the 1940s and 50s made by plateaux in their living girdle range. They are essentially enlarged suspender belts that compress the hips to improve body shape. Our open girdles come with four garter clips. Our metal garter clips are attached via black elasticated straps and have metal regulators for length adjustment.

Rubber Corselette
The corselette evolved from corsets as clothing fashion changed during the early part of the 20th century. In fact early corselettes were often called lightly boned corsets. In reality the corselette is more accurately described as a full torso girdle. Most corselettes had an open bottom similar to the open girdle, although many later designs employed a legged bottom similar to the pantie girdle. The use of boning in corselette design has gradually decreased over the years, partly due to the increase in use of stretch materials such as lycra. Latex offers even greater compression than lycra, so is an ideal choice for corselette construction and fully maintains the retro feel.
The Rubber Rapture corselette is an under bust design with an open girdle style bottom. Our latex corselette is lightly boned to improve figure shaping. The Rubber Rapture latex corselette has hook and eye opening at the back. Our latex corselette comes with four suspender drops for stocking attachment. These suspender drops have metal stocking clips and metal regulators for length adjustment. Alternatively you can request latex suspender drops, additional suspender drops, or no suspenders as a special order.
