Pantie girdles, also known as panty girdle, are a type of latex girdle that combines the open girdle with a pair of panties. An intermediate step between the open girdle and the pantie girdle was the leg-band girdle. The leg-band girdle was essentially an open girdle with the sides extending down the leg. A short section of material joined the front and back pieces to form a leg, while leaving a fully open crotch. The leg-band girdle was then given a gusset section, which finally evolved into the long-leg pantie girdle. Some pantie girdles have an open crotch which makes them appear very similar to a leg-band girdle. The pantie girdle became very popular in the USA during the 1960s as lycra became the dominant stretch material for girdle design. The short leg pantie girdle still exists today, but has been re-branded as control pants.
