Rubber Rapture is a bespoke supplier of latex clothing, but we offer a number of design templates to help get you started with your clothing designs. Many of these design templates are influenced by retro fashion. In particular, we have taken inspiration from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. This vintage period placed heavy influence on figure modification lingerie such as corsets, girdles and waist cinchers. Stockings and garter belts (suspender belts) were also in wide usage. Many of these lingerie items have become a focal point of burlesque performance in recent years.

Vintage lingerie was seen as a fetish item for many years. This is partly due to the obsessive behaviour of some individuals towards items such as hosiery and corsetry. However, a growing interest in all things vintage has started to change that perception. People have also become a little more broad minded in general over the last couple of decades, with a growing flexibility with respect to what is considered acceptable. Twenty years ago the idea of selling sex toys on the high street would have appalled many people, whereas today we walk past an Anne Summers shop without bating an eye. The same level of acceptance is turning towards lingerie choice and even sexual activity.

Vintage lingerie is no longer in the realm of dirty old men in rain coats, but has become a celebrated fashion style. You only have to watch a music video to see the resurgence of designs from the early to mid 20th century. This not only takes the form of traditional burlesque style clothing, but is increasingly made from latex rubber. Christina Aguilera's Not Myself Tonight music video includes a number of vintage lingerie items such as waist cinches, high waist knickers and even burlesque style nipple pasties. Her Ain't No Other Man video includes a full length corselette and corsets (backing singers).

This use of vintage lingerie and latex lingerie by celebrities is steadily breaking down the social taboos regarding such garments. In particular, corsets have made a significant resurgence, but often as outerwear rather than underwear. The pantie girdle has also become more popular recently, albeit mostly under the guise of the control pant.
